Usage

• Target Species: Horses (and ponies as required)

• Application: Used by equine dentists, veterinarians or trained technicians for smoothing sharp enamel edges, balancing molar surfaces and supporting proper occlusion during dental routine care.

• Method:

  • Ensure the horse’s mouth is safely restrained and open (preferably using a speculum and under sedation if required) in accordance with veterinary guidance.

  • Select the appropriate rasp size/shape for the quadrant being treated.

  • Carefully engage the rasp across the enamel surface using smooth strokes, controlling depth and avoiding excessive removal (as over-rasping reduces tooth reserve crown).

  • After use, clean the rasp thoroughly, remove debris, sterilise or disinfect as required and store safely.

• Frequency:

  • Typically used whenever dental sharp points or malocclusions are identified (which may be every 6-12 months or more frequently in younger or problem horses).

  • In routine maintenance cases, such tools are used during scheduled dental exams rather than daily.
