The Shires SoloRake features two comb heads, one coarse (9 teeth) and one finer (17 teeth,) which allow both heavy work on thick tails or manes and precise finishing strokes in one tool. The combination of the double head design with rounded-tooth combs helps remove dead hair and undercoat gently and quickly, making it ideal for shedding season, grooming for shows, or simply tidying the mane and tail.
Usage
Target Species: Horses (and ponies)
Application: Used during grooming sessions on the mane, tail and other hairy areas to reduce bulk, remove loose hair and achieve a neat finish.
Method:
Secure the horse and ensure it is calm and safe for grooming.
Begin with the coarse comb head on thick or long tail or mane areas, raking gently to lift undercoat and loose hair.
Switch to the finer comb head to refine the surface, remove remaining loose hairs and smooth the finish.
After grooming, check the comb heads for trapped hair, clean the tool, and store it in your grooming kit.
Frequency:
Recommended during the change of coat seasons, pre-show grooming or whenever the mane/tail tends to bulk.
Regular inspection of the tool is advised; replace if the teeth are bent or the handle joints become loose.
