The Kerbl Side Reins (Full) are crafted from strong webbing with robust fittings, built for stability and horse comfort during training. They allow riders to safely and effectively encourage correct head carriage and contact at the bit or snaffle when lunging or on the longe line. Sold in “Full” size, making them suitable for adult horses and standard saddle/bridle setups. The design balances durability, adjustability and gentle reinforcement, so that the horse can learn to accept contact without excessive pressure.
Usage
Target Species: Horses
Application: Used during lunging, groundwork or training sessions to help maintain correct head/neck position and encourage acceptance of the bit.
Method:
Attach the side reins to the bit rings and surcingle (or girth ring) at equal lengths on each side.
Adjust the length so that when the horse is at rest (head in natural carriage), the alignment is comfortable, not tight.
During lunging, let the reins engage gently as the horse moves, providing light, consistent contact rather than a fixed pull.
Monitor horse behaviour, ensure no excessive tension, and avoid forcing contact beyond the horse’s comfort.
After use, unclip the reins, wipe off any sweat or dirt, inspect for wear on webbing and fittings, and store in a dry tack area.
Frequency:
Suitable for routine lunging/training sessions (every week or as part of a regular training schedule).
Inspect before each session for wear and correct adjustment.
