The First Rider Lunging Reins / Lounge Training Rope is intended for groundwork and lunging sessions to help the horse develop balance, rhythm and responsiveness before under-saddle work (or as a standalone exercise). Constructed from strong, low-stretch material, it provides the handler with a reliable connection while the horse moves on the circle. Suitable for use with a lunge cavesson or bridle, these reins/rope support the training of young horses, warm-ups for performance horses or general schooling. Standard guidelines emphasise that lunging should be done on a suitable, level surface and done safely.
Usage
Target Species: Horses (and ponies where rope length and strength permit)
Application: For use in lunging/longing sessions to establish movement on a circle, transitions, suppleness and connection from the ground.
Method:
Secure the horse safely (using a halter, cavesson or bridle designated for lunging).
Attach the training rope/lunging reins to the proper ring (bit ring, cavesson nose ring or designated lunging ring) in accordance with equipment instructions.
Stand in the centre of the circle, hold the rope so it has an appropriate length, maintain good body position, and use voice and optional whip as aids.
Allow the horse to move at walk, trot or canter as appropriate; use the rope to regulate pace, direction and transitions.
At the end of the session, gather the line neatly, detach from the horse, inspect the rope for wear and store safely.
Frequency:
Suitable for regular use in training programmes: warm-up sessions, young-horse preparation, conditioning or flat work fail-safe.
Use caution and limit session duration to avoid over-fatigue or undue strain associated with continuous circle work.
