The GDM Driving Hammer is engineered for professional farriers who demand balance, control, and versatility. The head is forward-weighted, and the striking face is angled to minimise nail-bending, providing clean, accurate hammer blows. The claw is precision-shaped to pull or wring out nails and can also be used to bend nail points after clinching or when removing shoes. The handle is ergonomically shaped (asymmetrical wood handle) for a comfortable grip and includes a magnet to pick up nails and metal fragments, a useful feature during busy shoeing sessions. The 250 g (≈ 9 oz) version offers a balanced compromise between power and control, suitable for a wide array of shoeing needs from light trimming to heavy-duty nailing.
Usage
Target Species: Horses
Application: Driving nails when fitting horseshoes, pulling or removing old shoes, partial nail adjustments, clinching/nail-end bending, and general shoeing or hoof-care work.
Method:
With the hoof secured properly, position the nails/shoe carefully, then use the hammer’s angled face to drive the nails cleanly through the hoof wall.
If a nail needs removal or repositioning, use the claw to pull or wring it safely, reducing risk to the hoof.
After clinching, use the back of the claw (if needed) to bend over nail points securely.
Use the magnet on the handle to collect loose nails or metal bits, keeping the workspace safer and cleaner.
Frequency:
Essential for every shoeing session where nailing, removal, or adjustment is required, from routine farriery to corrective shoeing.
Regularly inspect the hammer head, claw, handle and magnet for wear; maintain by cleaning and storing dry after use.
