FJ-Slim Nail by Mustad

The Mustad FJ-Slim Nail has a longer and thinner shank compared with the standard FJ model. This design makes it especially suitable for lighter breeds or horses whose hoof walls are thin or delicate by using a slimmer shank and minimal head/crown. The nail reduces the risk of splitting or weakening the hoof wall. Because of its extra length, the FJ-Slim Nail also allows the farrier to drive it higher into the hoof wall, a feature that helps ensure a stable, secure fit and reduces the likelihood of nail pull-through or hoof wall damage when the horse moves.

Usage

Target Species: Horses, particularly lighter breeds, young horses or those with finer hoof walls

• Choose the FJ-Slim size that matches the hoof size and shoe type.

• Insert the nail through the shoe’s nail hole as usual, ensuring a straight, clean drive.

• Because of the slimmer shank, drive carefully to maintain nail alignment.

• Clinch and finish as standard, ensuring the nail end lies flush and secure without stressing the hoof wall.
