Derby E-Slim Nails (E2SL & E3SL) by Mustad

The Derby E-Slim Nails by Mustad are crafted with a refined, slender shank that drives smoothly while minimising displacement of the hoof wall. These nails are ideal for lighter shoes, narrow hooves, young horses or breeds with finer hoof structures.
The E2SL size suits smaller shoes or very fine hooves, while the E3SL size provides additional length for slightly larger hooves needing a slim alternative to standard E-Series nails. Both variants maintain Mustad’s signature consistency, strong material, accurate taper, and a precise point for clean, predictable nailing.

Usage

Target Species: Horses (ideal for ponies, young horses, fine-walled breeds)

Application: Designed for shoeing situations where a slimmer nail is required to reduce hoof wall trauma while maintaining a strong, secure hold.

Method:

• Select E2SL or E3SL depending on hoof size and shoe thickness.

• Insert the nail into the shoe’s nail hole, ensuring straight entry through the hoof wall.

• Drive the nail cleanly until it emerges at the correct height.

• Cut, bend and clinch the nail to secure the shoe without stressing the hoof wall.

• Inspect the shoe and clinches for secure placement.

Frequency:

• Suitable for every shoeing cycle, typically every 4–6 weeks.

• Replace nails according to hoof condition and shoe type.
