The National Day for Cats 2025, organised by Delmoosh Pet Centre, took place at the Marriott Marquis City Centre Doha Hotel and brought together animal lovers, veterinary professionals, and industry leaders to celebrate feline health and well-being. First Vet proudly joined the event as both a sponsor and a speaker, reinforcing its commitment to advancing veterinary care in Qatar.
Representing First Vet, Dr Mohamed Ashoush, Executive Director of First Vet and Royal Vet Clinic, delivered a powerful address on the pressing issue of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in pets. He highlighted how the misuse of antibiotics, such as giving leftover medication or stopping treatment prematurely, can lead to dangerous resistance, leaving animals vulnerable when they need treatment the most.
“Seventy percent of the cases we see don’t actually require antibiotics,” Dr. Ashoush explained. “If misused, antibiotics lose their power, and even multiple treatments may fail against serious infections. This is not theory it has happened here in Qatar.”
Dr Ashoush emphasised the importance of accurate veterinary diagnosis, completing prescribed courses, and avoiding reliance on unverified advice or recycled medication. He called on veterinarians, pet owners, and pharmaceutical providers to work together to ensure safe and responsible treatment for every animal.
The event’s theme aligned closely with First Vet’s mission: to not only provide high-quality veterinary medicines but also to serve as a trusted partner in animal health.
“Every pet deserves safe and responsible treatment, and that starts with us vets, pet owners, and providers speaking the same language, guided by science and care,” Dr Ashoush concluded.
