The Double S Front Aluminium shoes are crafted from high-grade aluminium, ensuring a significant reduction in hoof weight compared with traditional steel shoes. Their square-toe / “square” profile is ideal when a blunt toe fit is needed; it helps improve break-over for certain disciplines or hoof conformations and can benefit horses requiring minimal toe leverage. According to Double S’s aluminium line-up, these are CNC-or drop-forged aluminium shoes with rolled or fullered edges for traction and durability. They come in two sizes — 000 (the smaller size) and 00 — allowing fitting for smaller hooves, youngsters, or narrow-footed horses while maintaining the advantages of aluminium (less distal limb loading, lighter weight, easier movement).
Available Variants
Front Aluminium Shoe — Size 000 (Square Toe)
Front Aluminium Shoe — Size 00 (Square Toe)
Usage
Target Species: Horses (especially those suited for lighter aluminium shoes: young horses, sport horses, or those needing lighter front shoes)
Application: Used as front shoes when lighter shoeing is required; useful in disciplines where weight reduction, agility, or reduced concussion are beneficial (e.g., riding, performance, endurance, or horses with tendon/soundness considerations).
Method:
Choose the correct size (000 or 00) based on hoof measurement and farrier assessment.
Prepare and trim the hoof as usual.
Fit the aluminium shoe: ensure the square toe sits flush, check that the branch and branch width match hoof shape, and nail/clinch using appropriate nails (aluminium-compatible nails).
After fitting, monitor the horse for correct break-over, secure fit, and check nails/clinch after the first ride.
On regular maintenance or reshoeing schedule, inspect for wear, especially at edges and nail holes, and replace when the aluminium shows excessive wear or deformation.
Frequency:
Suitable for any shoeing cycle.
Especially recommended when the horse works in performance, when lightness is desired, or when switching from steel to aluminium for better limb comfort.
Features and Benefits
Aluminium construction (lightweight): Reduces distal limb load, potentially improving comfort, reducing fatigue/stress, beneficial for sport or endurance horses.
Square-toe profile: Offers a blunt-toe fit and easier break-over can be advantageous for certain hoof conformations or disciplines requiring a flatter toe.
Sizes 000 & 00: Provides options for smaller hooves, young horses or narrow-footed individuals flexibility in sizing.
Front-foot design: Specifically shaped for front hoof anatomy, making application and balance easier for front shoes.
Aluminium wear resistance (with proper use): While lighter, when used appropriately and maintained, it gives a good balance of durability and reduced weight load compared with steel.
