The Aesculap hoof knife, supplied via Kerbl, features a narrow cutting blade crafted from premium stainless special steel, hardened to approximately 52–54 HRC for durability and reliable edge retention. Its ergonomic hardwood handle is contoured for comfortable, fatigue-free use over prolonged sessions. The narrow single-edge design is ideal for detailed trimming around the frog, bars and sole of the horse’s hoof, providing excellent control and precision.
Usage
Target Species: Horses
Application: Used by farriers or competent horse-care professionals to trim the hoof wall, clean out the frog, loosen dead sole horn and refine hoof shape, especially in performance or remedial scenarios.
Method:
Ensure the horse is safely secured (tied or in stocks) and the hoof is clean and stable.
Hold the knife in your dominant hand (right-hand version, VC300V) with a secure grip on the handle, using controlled strokes.
Use the narrow blade to make careful, controlled cuts along the desired hoof area, avoiding excessive removal and maintaining hoof integrity.
After trimming, inspect the hoof for evenness and clean away any hoof dust. Store the tool safely.

Use at each shoeing or trimming session when detailed hoof work is required.
The blade should be checked for sharpness, nicks or bends before each use; replace or re‐sharpen if compromised.
